Raymond A. Klug, M.D.

Raymond A. Klug, M.D.Raymond A. Klug, M.D. is a native of Southern California and served as student body president of Cypress High School. After completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology at the University of California, San Diego he received his Master of Science and medical degrees from the Chicago Medical School. Dr. Klug completed his internship and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Illinois, Chicago and did a fellowship in Limb Reconstruction and the Methods of Ilizarov in Lecco, Italy. He completed a one year fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow surgery at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, New York and subsequently served as Visiting Clinician in Elbow Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Dr. Klug has extensive research interests including gene expression in injured tendons, bone and soft tissue healing after trauma, arthroscopic treatment of elbow fractures, the biomechanics of shoulder replacements, and cartilage transplantation. He has written multiple book chapters, published numerous papers in peer reviewed journals, and presented his research at numerous national and international conferences including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS), American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES), the International Congress of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (ICSS), the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), the International Cartilage Repair Society (ICRS), the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association (MAOA) and the Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society (LLRS).

In addition to general orthopaedics and fracture care, sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery of the knee, Dr. Klug’s primary areas of expertise include complex and revision problems of the shoulder and elbow including primary and revision total shoulder replacement, tendon transfers about the shoulder, percutaneous fracture fixation, open and arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, labral and instability surgery, elbow arthroscopy, instability, arthroplasty and fracture fixation as well as post-traumatic elbow reconstruction. Dr. Klug also serves as Associate Master Instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), teaching arthroscopic surgery to residents and practicing physicians.
